Our partner Krzysztof in Poland is producer for the AMAZONAS garden furniture and the cushions and Fat Hammock designed for it. Sustainability and environmental friendliness plays a major role in the ecological production.
Sustainable energy cycle ensures good working conditions and conservation of resources
Each production machine is exhausted by a central exhaust system . Chips are sucked in and pneumatically transported to a large storage tank. Large air filters absorb wood particles from the air. This ensures healthy and dust-free air for the employees. The chips are automatically processed into briquettes . These are burned in a computer-controlled kiln and the energy generated in the process is used to heat the drying plant . A sustainable energy cycle is created.

FSC TM - certified wood from sustainable European forest management
Krzysztof uses only FSC TM -certified wood from sustainable forestry for the production of AMAZONAS wooden furniture and thus contributes an important part to a sustainable environment. Among other things, no chemical fertilizers and biocides are used, clear cutting is avoided and large parts of the biotope wood are preserved to maintain habitat for (rare) plants, animals and fungi.
More sustainability with durable agora fabric for indoor and outdoor furniture
The covers of AMAZONAS outdoor furniture are made of agora fabric - one of the highest quality fabrics for indoor and outdoor furniture. These fabrics are extremely resistant and insensitive to dirt. They allow water to simply roll off, similar to the lotus effect . The through-dyed fibers of the agora acrylic fabric achieve a particularly high light and weather resistance with the help of the innovative color fixation, whereby the fabric retains its shape and color for a long time. In general, great care is taken during production to produce efficiently and conserve raw materials so that as little waste as possible is produced and resources are conserved. Recycled materials, such as recycled PET bottles, are used as filling material for the upholstery of AMAZONAS garden furniture .

  Power generation through solar energy
Since 2019, Krzysztof has also been focusing on sustainability when it comes to electricity. The solar panels for generating electricity are located on the roof of the production hall. This allows the full potential to be exploited.
Short delivery routes and very low returns keep co2 emissions at a low level
We have deliberately chosen the proximity to Poland in order to keep the transport routes to Germany as short as possible . This way we keep the co2 emissions low. The high product quality also means that there are hardly any returns, and thus less environmental impact.
Natural resource rainwater instead of water from the tap

To conserve the precious resource of water, the rainwater from the roof is collected in a 10,000-liter tank and used for dip impregnation in the production process, as it is softer than the water from the municipal waterworks. Before this, it is filtered to ensure that it is free of any impurities. Filtered rainwater is also used in the drying process for alternately wetting and drying the wood. In addition, a specially constructed pipe carries the rainwater to the flushing cisterns of the toilets. So here you can even go to the toilet sustainably :)

2007 Seek and you shall find - a reliable partner in Poland For years we were looking for a suitable supplier for wooden furniture and for our wooden hammock frames . Attempts in Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and also in China failed to meet our requirements. Then we found the company BM in Poland, the first one that really convinced us with quality and reliability.
2008 Hanging chairs Globo and Globo Royal are optimized The hanging chairs Globo and Globo Royal , originally from BM, are further developed together with AMAZONAS to what they are today - our classics!

2014 FSC TM - Certification Together, we are switching to FSC TM -certified wood : Polish state forests are particularly suitable for this, as they must be managed sustainably by law.
2015 Rebuild: Many small sheds become a real factory building The small manufactory can no longer meet our needs . So far, the production is divided among different sheds. Despite the greatest commitment, these capacities are no longer sufficient. The old owners and founders step down. Krzysztof, the son who at that time is still studying wood economy, takes over. Together with a purchase guarantee and the financing by AMAZONAS a real factory hall is built. A big risk for AMAZONAS and also for Krzystzof - but it was worth it!

2016 The family business grows - the starting signal for the processing of the AGORA fabric Kasia, Krzysztof's sister is setting up her own sewing shop. This is the starting point that we no longer use simple cotton fabrics, but can now work with AGORA : One of the highest quality outdoor fabrics you can get in Europe (Spain) (especially lightfast, durable, insensitive to moisture).

2017 Production ist becoming more and more automated More and more precision machines are arriving, including CNC production machines. Adam, the father of Krzysztof takes care of them. Bogdan the brother takes over the production planning and purchasing, so now the whole family is involved .
2018 A sustainable production cycle system is created The central extraction system is coming: All wood dust generated during sawing and planing is extracted, filtered and pneumatically transported to a large storage tank . This not only ensures healthy and dust-free air for the employees, but also allows this "waste" to be recycled and reused: Because the dust is pressed, processed into briquettes, and these are reused to fire the wood drying plant. A true closed-loop system!

2019 Production becomes even more sustainable - we use the power of nature Power generation is now also becoming sustainable: The roof of the hall is being completely equipped with solar panels .
2020 Continuous further development We continue to meet several times a year to be creative and to realize new ideas (even if the Corona has made this very difficult). So we can proudly look at a considerable number of self-developed and patented products - and so it shall continue!

                <![CDATA[
Our Brazilian hammocks are handmade in the traditional way . Thanks to the well-trained and experienced staff we achieve original Brazilian quality at the highest level.
We are very proud to offer up to 100 people in the very poor northeast of Brazil a secure job .
Quality controls are the be-all and end-all for us. We regularly visit our production facilities in person and make sure that there is no child labor .
Our Brazilian hammocks are produced in the following 5 demanding steps :
1. Selection citeria of the means of production
We choose our materials carefully.
When selecting the threads , we pay precise attention to stability and color fastness . We also incorporate the results of laboratory tests for freedom from harmful substances into our decisions. For ecological reasons , our colored threads are made of high-quality recycled materials .

2. Preparations
The threads are wound on the loom's roll according to the later pattern of the hammock. At the same time these threads are wound on spindles for the cross threads.

3. The loom is set up
The loom master , a highly respected profession, sets up the loom. Up to 6000 longitudinal threads must be knotted precisely by hand. This takes a whole working day . The loom is now equipped with a roll of longitudinal threads and ready for the next step.

4. The process begins
Now the weaver weaves in the cross threads. He creates 5-20 hammocks per day at his loom. The high number of threads and the power of the loom determine the density of the hammock fabric and thus its stability
5. Sturdy, handmade suspension cords are incorporated and complete the production process
In the meantime, the hanging cords are handmade from the same cotton threads in the traditional crochet machines. We use a little more material than usual, which makes the cords extra thick and makes the AMAZONAS hammocks especially tear-resistant , sometimes coping with loads of up to 280 kg.
After 1-2 weeks a roll of hammock fabric is ready woven and can be cut into the right lengths. The ends are provided with a continuous loop cord, the whole thing is sewn around with an extra strong 5-fold seam .

In careful manual work the cords are bound in the correct length to the nearly finished hammocks. This way the suspension loop is reinforced and the punctual loads of the finished hammock are perfectly balanced . (So when you turn around in the hammock, you will not fall out immediately)

Extra elaborate handcraft for Macrame-Veranda For some models like " Rio " or " Palacio " the previously hand-woven macrame veranda (side fringes) must now be sewn on. For our family hammocks another very important step is necessary. An additional woven band is woven by hand between the cords for decoration and higher spreading strength.

In the meantime, the same-colored carrying bag for the hammocks is also being finished. A final quality control of each hammock follows. Then the faultless product is folded and can start its journey into the wide world.

                <![CDATA[
In South America many people spend their nights, traditionally, in a hammock . For many generations it has served them as their sleeping chamber. Brazil's traditional hammock production suffered a collapse when a few years ago more and more cheap foam mattresses from the Far East replaced the hammock as a bed . Numerous factories had to close and many employees in Ceara, the poorest region in Brazil, lost their jobs.
AMAZONAS keeps hammock tradition alive and renovates insolvent hammock factory
One of these empty hammock factories became the birthplace of the AMAZONAS company. Together with a Brazilian we bought the building complex in 1996, renovated the structure and purchased new looms. Due to the rapid growth, the old buildings were demolished in 2002 and replaced by a new, modern production hall. The modern hall was equipped with additional looms and a new exhaust system ensures dust-free working conditions .

AMAZONAS secures over 100 jobs after industry slump

Occupational safety and health are paramount
Exporting to Europe brings other advantages for our employees . The quality of the raw materials we use corresponds to European standards . The environmental compatibility of the colors used not only benefits the waters of Brazil, but also means a healthy workplace for the workers who process the dyed cotton . Headphones as noise protection are not used anywhere except here.

Continuous implementation of safety and quality checks
In addition, we have regular analyses of our hammocks for AZO dyes, heavy metals, formaldehyde and other harmful substances to ensure the high quality of our products.
This makes it even more carefree!

  Recycling - AMAZONAS produces sustainable
AMAZONAS hammocks are woven with recycled yarn in an environmentally friendly way. We use a technique in which cuttings are processed back into yarn . AMAZONAS is connected to the dual system / industry solution "Interseroh" (participant number 132903). Through this innovative recycling process and sustainable action, we save more than 13,000 kg of CO2 in our packaging every year.

AMAZONAS produces environmentally friendly, ecological and provides so for hightest quality
Production of wooden frames and garden furniture in Poland
The comparatively short transport distances and FSC-certified materials from sustainable European forestry played a very important role in the decision to work with a manufacturer in Poland . The wood sawdust filtered from the exhaust air is pressed into pellets and reused to heat the factory . This results in less waste, because it is reused. The products are put together for testing before packaging , so that everything will fit perfectly in your home later on. In this way we avoid returns and the associated CO2 emissions.
Recycled materials, such as recycled PET bottles, are used as filling material for the upholstery of AMAZONAS garden furniture .

Saving on plastic packaging
By saving on blister packaging, PE bags and sometimes completely plastic-free packaging, we now save over 7.5 tons of plastic per year.

And why is sustainable forest management so important?
The coexistence of different animals, plants and fungi in the forest has developed over thousands of years and has formed a stable unit that is extremely resistant to natural influences. Only human influences can break this balance and cause the extinction of rare creatures and plants. To prevent this, our wood suppliers work according to the criteria of the FSC TM and operate a sustainable management of their forests. Die Mission des Forest Stewardship CouncilTM FSC TM ist die Förderung einer umweltfreundlichen, sozialförderlichen und ökonomisch tragfähigen Bewirtschaftung von Wäldern.
The FSC TM label on a product is a clear indicator that the product originates from responsible forest management - products with the FSC TM label ensure that forests are used in accordance with the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
In order to guarantee you sustainable forest management, our suppliers must meet the following criteria:

Preservation of large parts of the biotope wood to preserve habitat for (rare) plants, animals and fungi
Avoidance of clear-cutting
  Natural forest rejuvenation
Precautionary measures for environmental protection
No use of chemical fertilizers and biocides
Planned management (balance between planned wood use and sustainability)
Decent and socially acceptable working conditions for employees
Observance of property rights and rights of use of the forests

With the purchase of AMAZONAS products you support a sustainable use of forests and make an important contribution to a healthy environment
Look for FSC TM certified products. You can recognize all our FSC TM certified products by the FSC TM label shown.

Cotton - that sounds like nature, like good old times, like quality and tradition.
  The truth about cotton
Unfortunately, it is also true that the production of cotton places a heavy burden on the environment: although only 2.4% of the world's arable land is planted with cotton, cotton is one of the most pesticide-dependent crops in the world, accounting for about 25% of all pesticides used worldwide!
Recycling cotton residues saves water
Each ton of cotton requires no less than 18,000 liters of drinking water . Drinking water that is much more urgently needed in the main dry growing areas such as Pakistan, Mali, China and the midwest of the USA. Fewer cotton plantations therefore mean more vital water for people and nature, and less pesticides and insecticides for our environment. In view of these figures, it hurts us all the more that some of the waste cotton that is so costly to produce is sorted out in the course of textile production and normally simply thrown away

We win new yarn for the hammock production from cut remainders
In contrast, we use a simple technique in which these cutting scraps are reprocessed into yarn . As the fibres become shorter than before, they are stabilized by adding max. 15% polyester threads. We only use resources whose dyeing is subject to strict control (e.g. for skin compatibility). We therefore produce our (colored) hammocks in this way, and thus help to preserve the natural resources of our planet and protect the environment.
